Research Information Network
The RIN produce evidence-based research into information and data issues that affect researchers and information management professionals. They provide policy, guidance and support, focusing on the current environment in information research and looking at future trends. The work focuses on five key themes: search and discovery, access and use of information services, scholarly communications, digital content and e-research, collaborative collection management and storage.
Brief
Landau Reece won a pitch to design and produce the RIN’s annual report, working in conjunction with a commissioned copy writer. A key factor of the project was to design the report with a distinctly different and visually engaging layout as a departure from the more traditional style associated with academia. The RIN also wanted to highlight the digital medium as one of their growing service platforms through the style of the report.
Objectives
- To showcase current and future research projects of the RIN in a visually engaging and creative way
- To also design the report to act as a promotional item at RIN events
- To fulfil the communication objectives of the report
- To ensure the report complimented existing RIN publications, without compromising its own individuality
- To portray a modern and professional outlook for the organisation
Solution
- We produced and presented several design concepts to the client team that each satisfied the project and communication objectives
- The selected concept was then art-worked in collaboration with the commissioned copywriter using a mix of typographic styles to highlight key topics in the content
- We commissioned and art directed a photography shoot of the RINs headquarters, which included imagery of the staff and premises emphasising the personal nature of their services
- We also managed the print production and delivery of the report on behalf of the client
Results
- The project was ultimately delivered on time and on budget much to the satisfaction of the RIN
- The client was extremely impressed with the finished report and it has been very well received by internal and external audiences
- Due to the success of the project, Landau Reece have been commissioned to do further work for the RIN
